Choosing the right Yacht
The big question you should ask yourself before booking a yachting holiday is what type of boat should I charter?
At Hinde & Kitch we have narrowed down the options and given you a concise overview of what to expect from each…
Monohull
Monohulls are the most common charter vessel we have on offer, and are perfect for those who want to take advantage of perfect sailing conditions. They typically have an aft cockpit with surrounding seating, and stairs down to a saloon. The saloon is the heart of the boat, with a dining table, galley, and plenty of seating. This seating can also be turned into berths if required. The cabins are accessed off the saloon with typically two aft and two forward. These usually have an en suite or a shared head accompanying them.
Pros:
Monohulls will give you a fantastic sailing experience
When compared to the other types of vessel, monohulls are ususally the cheapest of the three options
As monohulls are often the fastest sailing vessel, you will be able to cover lots of water and explore a lot more sea.
Monohulls require smaller berths in the marina and are very maneouverable
Cons:
Compared to motor and catamarans, monohulls tend to have less internal space
The larger draft of the boat means some areas may be inaccessible in a monohull
Monohulls tend to heel over more than catamarans
Catamaran
With two swimming platforms that lead up to a large covered seating area, space is not a concern in most Catamarans. A large saloon offers stunning 360 degree views, and with the two hulls they have great cabin space. You will typically find two double cabins in each hull, both are often accompanied by an en-suite. Crew cabins in the bow of the boat are also an option, and are are kept very separate from the guest berths.
Pros:
Catamarans have a very large internal volume and are more spacious
There are lots of great optional extras to have, such as air-conditioning, larger tender etc.
Catamarans provide a great sailing experience whilst having a stable platform
Their shallow draft allows access nearer to the beaches and deserted bays
Cons:
Under sail, a catamaran tends to be slower than a monohull. You’ll be travelling less quickly but in more comfort
Because of their width, catamarans require double berths in marinas
Motor
Motor yachts really do have all the comforts that you would expect at home. They have considerably larger cabins than on sailing yachts, and typically have en-suites as well. At the stern of the boat you’ll find a swimming platform connected to a comfortable dining area, this outdoor area gives motor yachts a very spacious and relaxed feel. If anchoring in a bay while enjoying a drink, and watching the sunset hassle free sounds good to you; then a Motor Yacht may be the perfect choice!
Pros:
Motor yachts are built for getting from A to B! They are the fastest charter vessel we provide
They are great for older and younger families as motor yachts provide stability that sone sailing yachts do not
Motor yachts are incredibly spacious inside and will provide you with many amenities you would expect in a home
Cons:
Because of the added cost of fuel, motor yachts tend to be more expensive to charter
We’re being bias because we love sailing, but on a motor yacht you won’t get the thrilling experience of sailing around your chosen destination
Motor yachts require a higher level of qualification to skipper
