Staycation in the Solent
Gosport – Gosport, England
140Nm, 5 days, Oyster 46, 10th – 15th September
The joys of a staycation. Arriving late Wednesday night after work, we had a large supper, packed the boat, and got ready for the eagerly anticipated long weekend away. Sails were hoisted early morning, and a blast around the Solent was much on the cards, stopping in Osborne Bay for lunch onboard.
We then sailed down to Yarmouth for a delicious supper at The Hut, a superb seaside restaurant which runs a free shuttle to the marina or back to your boat moored in the bay offshore. The next day we set off down to Parkstone Bay Marina in Poole Harbour which gave us our sea legs; this was a glorious sail apart from abit of wind against tide off the Needles, Isle of Wight.
The return journey we had little wind and it took more or less the whole day. Up the Beaulieu River to the iconic Bucklers Hard pub which was welcomed by all onboard. After a drink with stunning views up the river, we returned to the yacht for our last supper aboard. The next day we set off at breakfast to return the yacht in time for lunch back in Gosport Marina. Overall the trip was a huge success, who knew a staycation could be so enjoyable!
